Iceboxes

Some of you were able to see the iceboxes that the students were making when they brought them home to work on them. We used milk cartons and a variety of materials to make these iceboxes.

We have been talking about how people meet their needs in different communities. One major difference between our society and other societies is the modern technology. We focused on preserving food in communities that do not have the technology to have electric iceboxes.

The students created their iceboxes and then we tested them by trying to keep an ice cube frozen throughout the day. First thing in the morning we placed an ice cube in each of the iceboxes. We checked the ice cubes throughout the day and kept a record of how well our ice cubes were doing. At the end of the day we talked about how well each of the ice boxes did and what the students could have changed to make their iceboxes more successful.

Most of the students were fairly successful. We had a control box with no material in it at all. The students were able to see how well  thier icebox did against one that was not insulated. It was a exciting and full day.

We are now moving onto our final project which I hope to put on the blog, depending on the time available to use the computers.

I look forward to seeing you at the Christmas concert! The students are doing very well on their song!
